As the key link in the chain that transmits knowledge, libraries are constantly promoting reading through animated programs for all ages. Literacy programs, reading clubs and homework assistance are just a few of the activities offered. Libraries also organize exhibits, talks and meetings of all kinds.
The Bibliothèque à la rescousse (Library to the rescue) program is intended for elementary school students. Workshops are organized to help them discover the resources available in their neighbourhood library.
The Éveil à la lecture et à l’écriture (Discover reading and writing) program is intended for children 5 years of age and under to guide them on their journey of discovering the written language.
To help you take full advantage of the many resources available, all Network libraries offer an initiation course, as well as other computer and office automation courses. Ask about them at your library!
More than words, the Mots partagés (Shared words) program is an opportunity to partake in a language of communication and a culture, and to share knowledge. Twice monthly, from September to April, Montrealers of different origins meet to converse, read and write in French. Come enrol in these free reading and writing workshops.
The city’s Bibliobus (Bookmobile) is a library-on-wheels located inside a colourful semi-trailer. Children from the boroughs of Ahuntsic-Cartierville, Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, Rosemont–La-Petite-Patrie and Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension are invited to use this unique lending library… rain or shine!
Tiny tots are captivated by sweet stories. Contact, le plaisir des livres (Contact, the joy of reading) taps into that twinkle in their eyes to spark curiosity about reading in parents and little ones. The program is intended mostly for new arrivals to help them integrate into Québec culture.
A blanket, a backpack full of books and stories, and a place to relax and have fun are all that it takes to open up the imaginary world of books to children 5 to 12 years of age! Come summer, the parks are an outdoor haven for young readers.
