Here and abroad - Learning another language

Learning another languageLearning a new language leads to an exciting world of cultural enrichment and knowledge, and this world is easily accessible in Montréal network libraries. They have a wide range of cassettes, CDs or CD-ROMs in their language-learning collections, which you can either take out or use on the premises. Some branches even have special workstations for language learning. The Mile End branch has up to 3,000 documents that can be used to learn no less than 40 languages!

There is no shortage of choice: linguists say there are approximately 7,000 languages, and tens of thousands of dialects. If you decide to learn a language, there are several ways you can go about it:

  • Travel to another country
  • Correspond with someone in another language
  • Take courses in person or online
  • Read magazines or newspapers
  • Listen to international radio and television programs
  • Use the resources offered by public libraries

In this section, we list webographies of our resources in all these areas. Happy learning!
